And All The Places In Between

By Categories: PoetryPublished On: May 13th, 2022

So many places I’ve seen
_from one spot
And I had searched and searched
_for that right place in the road
__where we passed each other
___and stopped
Though momentum had its way
_and we were like stones skimming on ice
__skating few inches past

I wasn’t in the right place for her
_and, perhaps
__she wasn’t in the right place for me
I have to admit
_I’m not familiar with how she felt
__…or even how I felt

And now, with time
_we’ve yet again moved to different places
__with our feet still treading the same boards
My heart has drifted
_exchanged the taken seats for others
__exchanged its stuttered beats for others

But none could ever really fill the space she made

My mind has wandered
_letting slip the little pieces of us
__between the cracks of the boards
I can’t remember
_what I might have forgotten

And in the end
_distance can never be broken
It stretches and shrinks
_but remains steadfastly between
And though hearts are fond of it
_minds find either peace or poison

And peace has finally found me
No, rather
_I have finally moved to meet it
