To My Dearest: Honesty
To My Dearest,
I miss you.
Sometimes, what needs to be said, are the simple words. I could write and rewrite letters with poetry and stories, and they certainly have their time.
But every so often, isn’t it nice to be bluntly honest?
I miss your sunny grin, your shiny eyes, and how your hand feels in mine.
I miss our laughter mixed together.
I miss how warm I feel when you look at me.
And it’s hard to shut off the metaphor machine in my head. It’s hard to just say how I feel about you, without it slipping into similes. And how can I be truly honest with you, when I cannot be honest to myself, about myself.
I’ve never been one for subtlety, and yet it slips out with my words.
Maybe I do so because there is always part of me that thinks if I said it outright, I’d be too open if the hurt came. So saying the truth coated in poetry, it lets me say it, but not say it.
And what foolish thinking that is.
What a world we could live in, if people would just say what they mean, to be honest with others, and free themselves, all at once. To simply speak what they want to say, and to do so plainly.
So, without muddling myself and mincing words, let me place away any worries or doubts.
You are a special piece of my life, and I wish you to stay for as long as we can. Please remain. Become my greatest friend. And I am counting down the days until we meet again.
I love you and miss you,
My Dearest
