To My Dearest: Love Letters
To My Dearest,
You’ve asked of me to no longer think of the distance that lies between us, and believe me when I say that I am trying. When these words are passed along a chain gang of strangers’ hands into our own, I feel the lengths shattered in an instance.
I never realised that these words would have such power over me. That a piece of parchment awakens your voice in my head, your hand on my cheek, your kiss upon my forehead, like some sort of scroll of sorcery. In an instant, I feel you beside me.
I have done my damnedest to make sure that feeling remains with me throughout these stretched days. Those around me have long since come to terms that I am mad as a hatter. I murmur conversations to you as I walk, sing to your spirit when home and, I have found only recently, loudly speak these letters to myself as I write them.
A proud soul may feel embarrassed, but a prouder soul flaunts it.
What greater pride is there than to have someone to write a love letter to, and have it returned in reciprocated excitement.
So let them call me mad, for love truly is a form of insanity.
With all my love, and the last of that sanity,
My Dearest.
