The Old Path

By Categories: PoetryPublished On: April 22nd, 2021

Right about this time
our ghosts are meeting
for the first time again
And so they will, forever

But they’ve cemented over
the path we once took
so our footsteps are no longer there

And I don’t remember
these roads being this long

…what…what did we talk about…?

Because
although I thought I never would
although I said I never would
I’ve forgotten what was said

And here I thought
I’d remembered too much

I walked that path today
to show that sliver within me
that you weren’t there
waiting

Even though
I also hoped a little
to find you there again
the impossibility that it was

But
We were built
on a foundation of slim chances

I didn’t find us there
not even the smallest piece

I carried my piece with me
and I let yours go
